Ziller raises an interesting possibility over at Fanhouse. As I pretty much gave up on LeBron two weeks ago--in addition to having very conflicting feelings about him being a Knick in the first place--the idea of getting Amar'e and Monta Ellis this year is actually somewhat salivation-inducing for me.
The Warriors' 2007 playoff run was, quite possibly, the most fun I've ever had watching basketball, and Monta Ellis was a huge part of that very special time. There were moments during that series against the Mavs when I thought, "This guy is the most exciting player in the NBA." Sure, that run was just as much about Baron Davis's leadership and flair, Stephen Jackson's growing maturity, and Jason Richardson's clutch shooting, but Ellis was playing like a superstar in the making.
The thought of him donning a Knicks uniform and recreating that kind of play with Amar'e and potentially even 'Melo is just really awesome. And for some reason, it makes more sense to me than LeBron and any combination of the above or other players. Monta and Amar'e just kind of seem like a classic Knicks duo, and as Ziller points out, the value of that squad would come down to, more than winning, bringing fans to the seats with an exciting brand of basketball.
To put it another way, Ellis is the first name I've come across in the free agency discussion whose Knicks jersey I would buy.
Defense schmefense.
Such a good photo choice. That rookie-sophomore game really was his coming out bash.
