No Regard Daily Recaps 11-2-10

EndlessPat toasts Cartier Martin for sending his team into overtime.

So here's the thing: I was told to review what surely would have been a fascinating Orlando-New York game at The Garden tonight.

Unfortunately that game was called on account of asbestos.

No, I'm not kidding. Madison Square Garden was deemed an unsafe workplace for its hard-laboring employees, and I was told to shift my attention to the Lakers-Grizzlies matchup, which we all knew was going to be super lame.

I don't like playing by the rules, so instead, I decided to be a bit of a wild card, a free agent if you will, and decided to watch The Battle of Who Could Care Less: a showdown between the winless Wizards and the equally winless 76ers.

It turns out I am a genius. Here's why:

I watched this game with my dear friend and occasional foe, EndlessPat. Pat is pictured above, drinking bourbon and icing the hip contusion I gave him over the weekend. He's smiling because together we got to witness the first buzzer-beater of the new season. It was a special moment. And let's face it, it was special because it was Cartier Martin. Yes, Cartier originally of the D-League's Iowa Energy, then more recently and more notably of Don Nelson's swan song squad, the last year of Nellie Ball in Golden State.

For me, Martin's buzzer beater tonight was particularly special because I personally remember watching a late night one-point game last season in which Don Nelson sadistically called play after play to Martin, insistent that he be the man to win the game. This of course was a team with Monta Ellis and Stephen Curry, but damn it, Nellie wanted to see if Cartier could do it. Of course last year, he could not do it and the Warriors lost. But tonight Cartier could do it. That was special to see. He put the team on his back and the Wiz won. EndlessPat wanted to offer his deepest congratulations.

So I'm supposed to recap something for you, right? Lakers-Grizz? The blowout that we promised we'd watch for some reason? I suppose the idea is that I build on the collective knowledge we have of the forming season. Alright, here we go. I watched basketball tonight. Here's what I learned:

-Pau Gasol is still better than Marc Gasol. A matchup between the two of them is startlingly similar to Peyton Manning thrashing his kid brother Eli on national television. It's mostly sad, and you have to feel for the little brother, because there will be years of therapy to recover from nights like tonight.

-Ron Artest does not like getting posted up. Rudy Gay pulled a few cheap low post moves on Ron-Ron early in the game. Ron responded by giving Gay what looked like an impromptu prostate exam, after which Rudy scored no more easy points.

-Signing Steve Blake was a good move. I mean, yeah. Did anyone else think he would suck on such an already developed team? A patient point guard who can score is EXACTLY what this already monstrous team needs coming off the bench. I hate it more than I hate mayonnaise.

-I don't care about the Grizzlies. Seriously. After trading both Marc Gasol and Rudy Gay away from my fantasy team, I decided that I'm signing off watching Memphis games unless I'm mandated to do so. Seriously. Lakers-Grizz? Ughh.

-As a blog, we're currently batting .000 on choosing good games to watch. Perhaps that's the fun. Perhaps it's always the unexpected match-ups that bring you to the edge of your seat. Though I can promise you that DirecTV has promised no money to our blog to promote League Pass. If they ever did, we would put all of the money into the mass production and sale of the following T-Shirt:

I'm totally not kidding. DirecTV, bet's to you.

  1. I'll take one of the No Regard T-shirts and one thousand with Cartier Martin's Iowa Energy shot on the front. You may bill me in the mail.
