It is strange to think about how different this matchup feels as compared to last season. One year ago, I was incredibly excited to be headed to the Izod Center to watch the Nets play the Cavaliers. Four things were certain that night: Jay-Z would not be there, Bron Bron was going to put on a show, I was going to try and sneak rum into the arena, and the Nets were going to lose. This time, Hova may actually show his face, Bron Bron is hosting D Will in Miami, I'm not headed to Newark, and the Nets have a good shot at winning.
That is, unless Lopez continues to struggle. He needs to be the dominant center that we all expect him to be for NJ to have a shot at sniffing the playoffs. Five boards a night so far this season just is not good enough. For the Cavs, life after the King has been better than expected so far. If the playoffs started today, their 3-3 record would be good enough to get them in, but that would be such a short season. Mo Williams has picked up the scoring slack, dropping 20.7 a game, up from his career average of 13.9, and big Andy flirts with a double-double every night (and takes home a good number of them). Good work from the South American. This is a big game for both teams, about as big as you can get for a November game between two teams who probably won't make the playoffs.
One Game We Probably Won't Watch Tonight: Los Angeles Lakers vs. Minnesota Timberwolves
Did you know that Sebastian Telfair is averaging nine points a game so far, one point up from his career average of 7.9? Hell yes, Bassey! I like it. I'm happy for the Brooklyn native who, when he first entered the league, oozed promise and potential. He certainly hasn't lived up to his billing, but I'll always have a special place in my heart for Telfair, mainly because of the incredible documentary, Through the Fire.
The game tonight? If you're taking it in, I hope you enjoy non-competitive blowouts and watching Kobe Bryant ice his knee for the majority of the second half. Seriously, because then you'll love this game!
