What We Should've Said

I have to fix something here. I woke up early today to write about basketball, but Cool Runnings was on TBS and I got pretty carried away. I was late for work, minorly hungover, and well, just wasn't paying attention when our recap went up. We'll call this our first No Regard: Errors and Omissions. While I have no intention of turning this blog into a Mavs fan club every time I write, last night was just... well, special.

I also don't want to blog my personal life like a 13-year-old going through a break up "just like Rory's on 'Gilmore Girls,'" but I will venture into personal territory far enough to reveal that I had a shitty week last week. Real shitty. In an effort to pick up my spirits on the heels of said week, my very good friends, some of whom write for this blog and could give a shit about my dear Dallas boys, suited up as Mavs fans for the night and rooted along with me. Glass of bourbon in hand, I sat down to enjoy being part of a quartet in shouting "JET!" every time the long-sock-wearing sixth man fired a three. Now, this was sweeter than even the best episodes of "GG" (read: before Rory went to Yale), but it also put a certain amount of pressure on my boys. Guys, my friends are watching, so don't get all 2006 Finals on me here.

Well, long story short, as long as Caron was bogarting Gilbert Arenas' shot selection the Mavs managed to be just careless enough to never run away with a lead. It was, however, entertaining and tight (if strange) basketball wire to wire—especially the part of the second quarter in which alley-oops outnumbered jumpshots. The Mavs were impressive on D without fouling down the stretch, and the Cs were just impressive on D. And then my birthday and Christmas smacked me in the face with a happy stick: Jet Terry hit a three from the wing to tie the game and Dirk hit the go-ahead basket over Big Baby (sorry Doc, that's his name). I won't say they never disappoint, but I'll drink to the nights on which they don't.

Oh, also, I'll give a pack of gum to whoever can explain to me why Rondo took the three with four ticks left on the clock for the win (insider tip: he missed). Seriously, I love the baby raptor, but he knows he plays with Paul Pierce and Ray Allen, right?

Oh, also: JET!

Thanks to the No Regard temp Mavs fans—this is for you.

  1. I can't believe you were able to start a post with that gross picture of Cuban and Terry up at the top, and then weave a tale that melts my heart and becomes one of my favorite posts.

And that guy who owns the diner in "Gilmore Girls"? I like that character, he was always a good dude.

  2. The guy who owns the diner is Luke. He and Lorelai are so totally made for each other.

    Just sayin'.

  3. Yeah, Luke. Luke is such a good dude, right?! He's always there to give them coffee or drive them somewhere or anything else they need. But who's that kid that lives with him who's always giving him a hard time? Who do you think you are kid?!

  4. That's his nephew, Jesse. He is the one Rory is locking lips with in the video above. He was just a misunderstood rebel with an underlying heart of gold.
