Don't know how we locked this down, but we'd like to introduce you to No Regard's newest blogging sensation... Mike Bibby! He'll be checking in whenever he can, just to remind us: It's Bibby's World, we just live in it!
Hey everyone!
I know it's been (approx.) two million years since I last posted something. I'm really sorry about that. In the interest of full-disclosure, you should know that it's because I'm big into Labor Day. I actually treat it more like Labor Month than Labor Day - a full month reserved for kicking back and not going to work or school. My kids love it more than anything, not having to go to the first couple weeks of class. (Secret: Kids learn less in the first month of school than in any other month, so you might as well use September to hang out with them.) Which brings me to the point of this post: Manliness.
A TRUE STORY: It's Wednesday afternoon (aka Today), and I'm sitting on the couch watching the complete series DVD of Karen Sisco, drinking beers with my twelve year old son, Mike. We're five episodes in and have come up with a great drinking game that involves drinking every time K. Sisco has to run in high heels, when Coach Mike (I'm supposed to say 'former Coach Mike' now, but I'm never going to do that.) shows up and gives me this LOOK:
Coach Mike Woodson |
And I go, "What?" And he goes, "Mike, what are you doing?" And I go, "Playing Karen Sisco Drinking Game." And Coach Mike goes, "Mike, Mike should be in school!" I just spit Newman's Own Lemonade all over my screen when I reread that last sentence. No sentence has ever had more 'Mikes' in it.
A Man |
But he says, "No. A man is someone who takes care of his family by working hard and sending his kids to school." And I say, "What about on Labor Month?" And he says, "Especially on Labor Month." It was at this precise second that I had a moment of clarity: Regular season is coming up, and I've been sitting inside with my kids, drinking beer and watching Karen Sisco and Groundhog Day all month!
What am I DOING? Somewhere between Coach getting laid off and Labor Month, I lost a part of myself: The part that likes to be somebody. After looking at my phone and seeing that I had a thousand new voicemails from my new coach, wondering where I've been, I grabbed a ball from my living room, dusted it off and began to play a one-on-one with Coach. After the game, I made plans to spend EVERY SECOND* of this month practicing with Coach. And I guarantee you that I will be ready to play by the time the season starts. And I will be ready to win. It just goes to show that your Coach is always your Coach... even when he's fired and replaced by his assistant.
*The only reason I have time to write this post is because I vomited after five minutes of playing against Coach. So I'm taking a break. (Everyone has to start somewhere.)
