Don't know how we locked this down, but we'd like to introduce you to No Regard's newest blogging sensation... Mike Bibby! He'll be checking in whenever he can, just to remind us: It's Bibby's World, we just live in it!
Today, I woke up with nothing to do. It's been one of those days where I actually had time to floss, and 'listening to music' was a solitary activity I engaged in for over an hour. So, I'm sure you'll understand when I say that I watched the unrated version of the teen road trip, sex-romp comedy Sex Drive and the 19th Century romantic drama Bright Star in a back-to-back double-feature from the comfort of my king size bed. Which brings me to this picture:
Aside from learning that Seth Green is hilarious as a sarcastic Amish mechanic, I had some rather eye-opening realizations as the final minutes of my 4-hour-long movie marathon came to a close. First of all, Sex Drive is very much a film aimed at straight males between the ages of 15 and 28, whereas Bright Star is a tear-jerking period piece aimed at females between the ages of 6 and 100. Why? Because Sex Drive features gratuitous boobs and the comedic plotline of a young man just trying to deflower himself with the help of any hottie who's down to get down, and Bright Star features pretty cravats and the dramatic plotline of a young couple who's just trying to get married forever.
So is it just porn movies and Disney who are the culprits? Or is it EVERYTHING? You decide. I'm no Sociologist, but I can easily say that this is the evolutionary need for sex/commitment in men/women respectively that has been perpetuated through fiction since the beginning of time. So why period pieces? Easy. They're just the closest things we have to fairy tale picture books, a two-hour long escape from reality, time and space. The male fantasy tends to be much more local, however. What I mean is, it takes place in present times with characters that probably resemble the demographic. And though the scenarios are OUTRAGEOUS, they are, by a horny 16-year-old's imagination, TOTALLY DOABLE!
I know I got way thinky on you guys in this post, but these two movies really got my head spinning, and I just needed to write it out. Thanks for listening!
Bibby Out.
Thanks Bibs, we've actually been really slacking in our DVD review section.
ReplyDeleteHey, here's a weird thing. Don't you play basketball?
Bright Star was good, but it was no The Station Agent.
